As the Fourth of July holiday weekend winds down, many travelers have packed up and are heading home Sunday. But some say the roads weren’t as busy as they expected.

According to AAA 61.6 million Americans will have traveled domestically by car, and that’s up 2.2 percent from last year’s Fourth of july weekend, setting a record for highest volume. And by plane 5.84 million are expected to board and that’s a 1.4 percent increase.

Seattle was ranked as the second-most popular domestic travel destination for the Fourth of July holiday this year, according to AAA. Seattle hotspots have seen notable crowds this week. KIRO 7 asked visitors at Pike Place Market what brought them to Seattle.
