BYU has named Bachmeier its starting quarterback, ESPN reported Tuesday, which would make him the first true freshman to start a season for the Cougars at the position. Bachemier beat out veterans Treyson Bourguet and McCae Hillstead for the job.

Bear Bachmeier will become the first true freshman QB to start a season opener for the Cougars in program history.

BYU has named Bear Bachmeier, who will wear No. 47, as its starting quarterback. He will debut against Portland State on Aug. 30 which will make him the first true freshman in school history to start an opener for the Cougars' program.
