The US Justice Department has entered an agreement with the Antioch, California, police department, which will end an investigation into racist text messages sent and received by its officers.

The Antioch Police Department was under investigation by the Justice Department after racist text messages between its officers were released in 2023.

A Northern California law enforcement agency has entered a multi-year reform agreement with the Department of Justice following an investigation into a racist text message scandal. Several members of the Antioch Police Department were accused of participating in the communications,

An accused drunken driver blurted out an inadvertent confession to an officer who pulled him over, California police reported. “I was just dropping off my friend because I’m the DUI tonight,” the man tells the officer in a body cam video posted to Instagram by the Murrieta Police Department. The encounter took place early Jan. 1.

"I was just dropping off my friend because I'm the DUI tonight," the driver told police less than an hour into 2025.
