Bay Area residents had an opportunity on Thursday to write a final farewell message to the late President Jimmy Carter. Habitat for Humanity had two locations, in San Jose and Oakland, where people could come and write on a door and wall frame.

Jimmy Carter attended the groundbreaking for Habitat for Humanity Orange County’s first affordable housing project in 1990. Residents remember the day well.

The faith-based nonprofit organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide.
