Police and city officials in Houston said evidence in storage lockers is being destroyed by "drug-addicted rats."

The Texas city’s mayor said he will work with the county district attorney to discard drug evidence obtained before 2015 that no longer has any value.

The rodents are enjoying marijuana at the Houston Police Department that has been sitting in evidence for years.

"We've got 400,000 lbs. of marijuana in storage, that the rats are the only ones enjoying it," said Houston Mayor John Whitmire.

Drug-addicted rats are destroying evidence in warehouses, which is a serious problem for the Texas police. Even exterminators are struggling to deal with the rodent infestation. Houston is storing 1.2 million pieces of evidence,
