UVA police say the suspect, Nyheem Hill, fled following an off-campus traffic stop near Ivy Road. The order was lifted around 1:40 p.m.

The University of Virginia was placed on lockdown and classes were canceled Tuesday as police searched for a man last seen on Grounds.

UVA was placed under a shelter in place earlier Tuesday afternoon, due to a potential armed suspect in the area.

Authorities in Charlottesville and Albemarle County lifted shelter-in-place alerts for the University of Virginia and Lewis Mountain neighborhood following a search for Nayeem Hill, a 19-year-old Scottsville resident who fled from police following an attempted traffic stop on Feb. 25.

According to the emergency alert, the suspect is believed to have left the area and classes will resume Wednesday.
