The San Jose Sharks were their own worst enemy on Sunday against the Ottawa Senators. A host of giveaways, including one on a goal by Drake Batherson with less than seven minutes left in the third period, proved to the Sharks’ undoing in a sloppy 7-4 loss to the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Senators surrendered a 2025 second-round pick that the Sharks used to select Cole McKinney, who recently represented the United States at the World Junior Hockey Championships (no points in three games). As an 18-year-old (turns 19 on Monday), he has 19 points in 36 games for the top-ranked University of Michigan.
Graf scored in his third straight game to put the Sharks back up 3-2 at 10:46. Macklin Celebrini sent the puck to the front of the net, where Graf won a puck battle against two Senators and got it over the glove of Ullmark.

Goaltending struggles are sinking the Ottawa Senators season
The Ottawa Senators have excelled in almost every facet of their game this season, except for the most important one. Goaltending is one of the most important positions in all of sports.
The NHL has modified the disciplinary penalty previously issued to the Ottawa Senators over the 2021 trade involving Evgenii Dadonov. The league confirmed that Ottawa will now pay a $1 million CAD fine and receive the 32nd overall pick in the 2026 draft instead of forfeiting a first-round selection entirely.
Ducks struggle in neutral zone, misplays cost them chances. Senators' strong forecheck and puck possession shut down Anaheim's offense.
