Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estévez on Friday was named to replace Texas' Jacob deGrom on the American League roster for the All-Star Game. DeGrom will be inactive because his scheduled start for the Rangers' game at Houston on Saturday night falls too close to Tuesday's All-Star Game.

There hasn't been any official word on why Rodriguez departed, but it wasn't pre-planned and his velocity fell to just 91.6 mph. He will now almost certainly not be activated prior to the All-Star break, but a further timeline is not yet clear.
