Complex winter storm eyes Appalachians to potentially I-95 corridor along East Coast with snow by midweek

A powerful winter storm system moving across the Great Lakes and Northeast is bringing snow and ice, frigid temperatures and possible whiteout conditions.
“While Kona Lows typically bring the heaviest snow, the mountain peaks still see winter advisories 25-30 times per year. Since Hawaii does not officially record snow, it is difficult to tell how many of these advisories actually resulted in snow accumulations, but suffice it to say it is not unusual for them to see snow during the winter months.
Here’s a quick look at the storm system that will roll through Michigan this weekend.
At this point, 1–4 inches still looks reasonable across the Front Range, with a slushy 1–2 inches for many locations east of Denver across the plains. With marginal temperatures, significant melting is expected, and many areas will likely finish on the lower end of snowfall totals.
