In an interview with Variety, HBO boss Casey Bloys addressed the future of The Last of Us, which has undergone some creative shake-ups in recent weeks – as well as nailing down a release window for The Last of Us season 3.

Variety had the privilege of speaking with HBO and Max content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys. During their conversation, The Last of Us was brought up. According to Casey, The Last of Us season 3 is expected to arrive in 2027. So, we’ve got all of 2026 to get through before we see that next chapter of the story unfold.

The Last of Us Season 3 is "definitely planned" to arrive in 2027, HBO boss Casey Bloys has confirmed, pinning down a firm launch window for the series' next — and potentially last — run of episodes.

A show known for its devastating character departures now has a big one behind the scenes: The Last of Us co-showrunner Neil Druckmann is exiting the HBO hit series.

In addition, Halley Gross has also announced she will no longer be working on the HBO series. Gross previously co-wrote “The Last of Us Part II” with Druckmann and worked as an executive producer and writer on the HBO series.

If you’re all caught up on The Last of Us (the TV version that is) then you’ll know that season two made clear that when the show returns it will focus a lot more on Kaitlyn’s Dever’s Abby. But it sounds like we’re going to have to wait a while to see that side of the story unfold.
