The United Kingdom plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September unless Israel commits to peace in the Gaza Strip and to stopping the annexation of the West Bank.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations summit in September, following France and clashing with the US and Israel.

The U.N. General Assembly has brought high-level officials together to promote a two-state solution to the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Dozens of ministers will gather at the United Nations on Monday for a delayed conference, but the U.S. and Israel are boycotting the event.
