President Donald Trump is promising new steps to tackle homelessness and crime in Washington. And that's leading the city’s mayor to voice concerns about the potential use of the National Guard to patrol the streets in the nation’s capital.

Trump says homeless people must go "far" from the nation's capital, as part of his anti-crime plan, but the mayor pushes back.

“Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has been plagued by violent crime for far too long," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “President Trump has directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens.”
