Winter Storm Enzo has brought rare, record-breaking snow to parts of the Gulf Coast, snarling travel and resulting in historic snowfall totals from New Orleans to Florida. New Orleans picked up 8 inches, making it the heaviest snowfall there in modern day records (since 1948) and the city's biggest total in over 100 years.

On Monday, the National Weather Service called it a once in a generation event. At least 8 inches fell in New Orleans, where no snow had accumulated since 2009. (It broke a previous record of 2.7 inches, according to the NWS .) It was also the largest winter storm to hit Jacksonville in 35 years and the biggest for Houston since 1960.

Not only did Florida get record snowfall, but it was colder in Pensacola this morning than it was in Anchorage, Alaska.

According to Weather.com , Mobile, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida, recorded record snow totals with 7.5 inches and 7.6 inches, respectively, while Baton Rouge reported 7.6 inches, New Orleans eight inches and Lafayette nine inches.
