DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings once again scored enough to win but gave up too much and lost. The Tampa Bay Lightning got a pair of goals from Yanni Gourde and defeated Detroit 6-3 Friday at Little Caesars Arena, winning their sixth in a row while handing the Red Wings their third consecutive loss.
The first one came on a goal-mouth scramble. The second came on a slap shot after a failed clearing attempt by the Wings; it stood as the winner. Gourde has three points (six shots) in his last two games, but his nine points (five goals, four assists) in 24 games will keep him on wire.
Goalie John Gibson made 22 saves for the Red Wings (13-11-1; 27 points), who dropped their third consecutive game. Helping the Lightning (15-7-2; 32 points) stretch their winning streak to six straight contests, netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 33 shots.
It’s only November, but the Lightning have already weathered their fair share of turbulence. After sitting last in the Eastern Conference just seven games into the season, they’re beginning to show signs of cohesion and organizational depth.
Continuing to have a win streak in the last week, the Tampa Bay Lightning grabbed their fifth-straight win after putting out the Calgary Flames on home ice.
