The Detroit Lions didn't play a clean game in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, racking up 10 penalties for 77 yards, and it ended up costing them in the 27-24 loss on Sunday, Nov. 2. The Lions were coming off their bye but played one of their sloppiest games in years.
The Minnesota Vikings came into Sunday's matchup vs. Detroit having lost five straight to the Lions and four in a row at Ford Field. But Minnesota has a new starting quarterback and J.J. McCarthy made it 1-0 in his career vs. Detroit as he threw two touchdowns and ran for another, guiding Minnesota to a 27-24 victory over the Lions.
The jury remained very much out on McCarthy prior to his Week 2 ankle injury. Sunday was a big step in the right direction for the second-year Vikings quarterback.
