People are voicing concerns after a senator was detained while asking questions about Donald Trump's ICE raids. Civil unrest erupted in Los Angeles over the past week in the wake of arrests made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in areas with significant Latino populations.

In a region that is nearly 50% Latino, Los Angeles has long been a stage for what happens when marginalized communities push back.

During an interview with CNN correspondent Kyung Lah, California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters reacted to Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard and branded him 'cruel'

Harold Ezell, the former Immigration and Naturalization Service Director who helped author Prop 187, later declared that the “biggest mistake the opposition made was waving those green and white flags with the snake on it. They should have been waving the American flag.”

The National Guard has at times detained protesters in its deployment to Los Angeles, an official said Wednesday, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs enforcement raids spread to other major cities.

Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday accused President Donald Trump of a “brazen abuse of power” for mobilizing National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles and warned that the United States was facing a “perilous moment” under a president “who wants to be bound by no law or constitution.

President Trump has long mused about sending the military to crush protests in blue-state cities. He is now using troops in Los Angeles.
