Cleveland Metroparks leaders on Thursday announced they’ve agreed to a $4.2 million deal to buy nearly 14 acres of state-owned land near Progressive Field to help plans to build a new women’s soccer stadium there.

As efforts continue to bring a new National Women's Soccer League expansion team to Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Metroparks Board of Park Commissioners approved the purchase of a piece of land that could accommodate a stadium.

With a 16th NWSL team likely on its way, Cleveland is hoping to throw its hat into the ring, and got itself a boost this week.
