By Bo Erickson and Andrew MacAskill WASHINGTON/BEIJING, Jan 30 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump warned the United Kingdom against getting into business with China as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer lauded the economic benefits of resetting relations with Beijing during a visit to the Chinese capital on Friday.
In response to Trump's tariffs, China's use of other Asian manufacturing markets and forced labor is adding trillions into Chinese GDP.
The relationship between India and Canada has been visibly on the mend since Mr. Modi attended the Group of 7 summit in Alberta at Mr. Carney’s invitation in June 2025, shortly before the shock of the American tariffs.
Since the start of the year, as President Donald Trump has alienated U.S. allies with his attack on Venezuela, demands for control of Greenland and new tariff threats, their leaders have been reviving ties with another country: China.
Last year, the EU and China flirted with a diplomatic reset, which collapsed after Beijing imposed broad restrictions on rare earth exports. That bruising experience has set the stage for a cautious engagement in 2026.
