More than 100 people gathered for a private celebration of life ceremony to honor Corey Comperatore Sunday, July 13, at the Butler Farm Show grounds. At the event, the community heard stories about

Comperatore, a devout Christian who adored his family and two Dobermans, died while shielding his wife and daughters from bullets fired by would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, who had been perched atop the rooftop of a building adjacent to the rally stage last July 13.

Roughly 1,000 people participated in "Corey's Cruise," a 49-mile-long motorcycle ride, while a parade was held in Saxonberg in Corey's honor.
