On the same day that TikTok was banned for several hours, Instagram announced a new video editing app named Edits.

Edits is 'hoping not just to be an editing tool but an entire full suite of creative tools for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone,' IG Head Adam Mosseri says.

Instagram on Sunday rolled out Edits, a video-editing product that appeared similar to CapCut, which is owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.

Instagram has announced Edits, a free video editing app that sounds a lot like CapCut. In a video posted to Threads on Sunday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri described Edits as a "full suite of creative tools," and briefly ran through its planned features.

Update: CapCut, Marvel Snap and other ByteDance apps have returned to the US (at least for now). They may still be banned if a sale doesn't go through again but for the meantime you can enjoy CapCut and forget all about Instagram's upcoiming Edits app. The original story continues below.
