​Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim had spent the evening at an event dedicated to bringing together war-torn and politically divided regions of the world when a man with a gun killed the soon-to-be engaged Israeli Embassy staffers Wednesday.

A 30-year-old suspect, Elias Rodriguez, is in custody for shooting dead two Israeli embassy staffers on Wednesday.

Two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot dead Wednesday night outside Washington's Capital Jewish Museum where an event was being hosted by the American Jewish Committee, officials and authorities said.

Friends and family of 30-year-old Yaron Lischinsky and his 26-year-old girlfriend Sarah Milgrim are describing the couple as lovely people who yearned for peace.

Slain staffer Yaron Lischinsky had purchased an engagement ring and was planning to propose to his colleague Sarah Milgrim.

"Please pray for the families of the victims. We will bring this depraved perpetrator to justice," DHS Sec. Kristi Noem said.
