A 13-year-old girl drowned in the water off a Jersey Shore beach, according to police, the second deadly drowning along the Jersey Shore in less than a week.

When officers arrived at the Eighth Avenue beach, police said one person was out of the water, but a 13-year-old was still missing. Crews searched the water for nearly an hour, police said. Around 7:30 p.m., police said crews found the 13-year-old in the water off the Seventh Avenue beach. The teenager was unresponsive.

A 13-year-old girl died Friday night after going missing in the ocean at a Jersey Shore beach. Police in Belmar responded to the 8th Avenue beach shortly after 6:30 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls about “a swimmer in distress,” Belmar Police Chief Tina Scott said in a news release.
