University of Texas System Chancellor J.B. Milliken is stepping down at the end of this month to lead the University of California system, the West Coast institution's board of regents announced Friday afternoon.

The University of California Board of Regents today approved the appointment of James B. Milliken as the 22nd president of UC’s world-renowned system of 10 campuses, six academic health centers, and three nationally affiliated laboratories.

James Milliken, the chancellor of the University of Texas, has been named the next University of California president by the UC Board of Regents.
