The movie "Conclave" paints a mostly accurate picture of the Roman Catholic process of electing a new pope, save for an implausible storyline.

But how faithful is the movie to the real thing? Conclave tells the story of Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, dean of the College of Cardinals, played by actor Ralph Fiennes. Lawrence is tasked with leading a papal election or conclave after the pope dies.

Some 133 cardinals enter the Sistine Chapel and are locked inside, tasked with choosing the next leader of the Catholic Church, the picking of the pope — a centuries-old selection process so confidential that the cardinals will be on a strict diet to prevent secret messaging.
