The third round of the Genesis Scottish Open is set to begin on Saturday, with Chris Gotterup holding a two-stroke lead heading into the weekend.

"I definitely finished the round better than I started it," said McIlroy, who closed the first round with three consecutive birdies and is 2-under going to Friday.

McIlroy figured he was about 80% of where he wanted to be ahead of his return home to Northern Ireland next week.
