A shelter-in-place was lifted at the University of Virginia and classes were canceled Tuesday after police were searching for a man accused of fleeing a traffic stop.

UVA was placed under a shelter in place earlier Tuesday afternoon, due to a potential armed suspect in the area.

University of Virginia students, faculty and staff have been urged to shelter in place as police search for a suspect in the Alderman area.

The University of Virginia Police Department and community members are currently under a shelter in place while police are looking for a suspect. UVA PD said that Nyheem Hill was last seen near Alderman Road a fled the scene on foot after an off-grounds traffic stop near IVY Road.

The University of Virginia Police Department has reported that the shelter-in-place has been lifted. Police believe the suspect has left the area, however, police will remain on the scene. Classes will resume on Wednesday.

The University of Virginia Police Department posted an alert on their Facebook asking all students faculty, and staff to shelter in place.
