Four tornadoes have been confirmed in Alabama from the latest round of severe weather, according to the National Weather Service. Three of the tornadoes were in central Alabama and one was in south Alabama. The strongest was an EF1 in south Alabama’s Escambia County.

Nearly a dozen homes were left heavily damaged in Bonnertown, while minor damage was reported in Columbia.

Alabama schools have begun to announce closures or delays for Monday as the state prepares for possible widespread severe weather starting Sunday night. NOAA forecasters have added a Level 3 out of 5 risk for southeast Alabama and have maintained a separate Level 3 risk for the northwest corner of the state.

Alabama had to deal with severe weather and snow in the span of 24 hours, and those storms produced at least one tornado late Sunday night. The National Weather Service in Huntsville said an EF1 tornado track has been confirmed in northwest Alabama.

The tornado touched down in Lexington Sunday night and tracked over the state line, according to the National Weather Service.

Unusually severe weather is expected, impacting several states with damaging winds and tornadoes.
