During the pandemic, when there were no jobs available, the State Employment Development Department (EDD) dropped the requirement that people getting unemployment benefits actively search for a job.

The EDD will be sending notices to workers about the change. Individuals applying for new claims after July 11 will be required to register with CalJOBS, the largest job board in California.
