Chicago civil rights leaders and Illinois politicians reaffirmed their dedication to protecting education and immigrants rights Monday morning amid reports that President Donald Trump could begin his crackdown on illegal immigration this week with raids in Chicago.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day to remember King's life's work and his legacy on civil rights and social justice.

"Unity is now returning to America, and confidence and pride is soaring like never before in everything we do," Trump said.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20 coincides with Trump’s inauguration. Government offices, postal services, and financial institutions will be closed, but retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Target will remain open.

U.S. stock markets will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. The Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange will both be closed on the federal holiday but will reopen for regular trading hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
