A federal judge has sided with a group of gun rights advocates over Maine’s 72-hour waiting period law again.Chief U.S. District Judge Lance Walker denied Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey’s motion to temporarily suspend the enforcement of a court-ordered preliminary injunction halting the state’s 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases.

Walker also rejected AG Frey’s claim that there would be Irreparable Injury without the three day waiting period. He favored the claims of the gun rights supporters, saying the three day waiting period was likely unconstitutional, an infringement of the Second Amendment and not consistent with tradition.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey filed an 11-page appeal to a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, seeking to put the law back into effect immediately. He argued that the pause could cause irreparable harm to Maine residents, stating that the waiting period helps save lives.
