According to the New York Post, Murphy has launched a billboard campaign promoting a $20 million initiative to reward New York companies that let employees work in New Jersey, bypassing the $9 congestion toll.

Traffic entering Manhattan below 60th Street dropped by 7.5% in the first week after the start of a controversial $9 toll on driving in that area.

With the first week of New York’s Congestion Pricing toll in the books, commuters are reaping a reward, spending less time in traffic in exchange for their $9 toll to enter lower Manhattan, said the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The MTA released a report Monday showing traffic heading into New York City was down a week after the new congestion pricing plan went into effect.

Systemwide, the MTA anticipated a 1% increase in transit ridership with congestion pricing, but day-to-day fluctuations make it hard to pinpoint the impact, said Michaelson.

The Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge has been toll-free since it first opened to traffic back in 1909, but some drivers are now being charged because of congestion pricing, whether they know it or not. CBS News New York's Doug Williams reports.
