The BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra are fraternal twins, codeveloped by the German and Japanese automakers. They share a majority of their mechanical parts -- things like engines, transmissions, etc.

Rather than simply bolt the Supra’s manual package into the Z4, BMW opted to create its own linkage and short lever, with the aim of delivering a shift feel that throws shade on the Toyota’s.

However, as Toyota and BMW are so intertwined on this project, the Z4 looks like it may be about to follow in the Supra's footsteps and will likely be offering a manual gearbox soon.

I plan on reviewing this car soon, but I want to talk about an important aspect of the Z4: why it's a better sports car to drive than its corporate twin, the Toyota GR Supra. I like the Z4 a lot.
