Those with even the most basic knowledge of the Superman story would not have been surprised to hear what filmmaker James Gunn - director of the highly-anticipated Superman reboot - stated plainly in a recent interview with The Sunday Times.

Gunn courted outrage from the online (and televised) right with an interview in The Times of London. In that talk, published on Sunday, Gunn rightfully pointed out that Superman is both an immigrant and the American ideal.
