The Medinas were among the countless Long Islanders who attended community parades or solemn ceremonies and made visits to military grave sites on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Others marked the unofficial start of the summer soaking up sunshine under cloudy skies at the beach or at backyard barbecues.
The ceremony marked the 157th Memorial Day celebrated in the United States, a holiday dedicated to those who died in service to the country.
“Donald Trump is a deranged lunatic who wouldn’t be allowed to manage a Wendy’s,” The Bulwark.com’s Sarah Longwell wrote on X. “But I guess we all have to pretend like this is normal and not 25th amendment behavior. People who treat this as acceptable are the insane ones.”
Video from the U.S. Geological Survey showed Kilauea volcano spewing lava more than 800 feet into the air in its latest eruption on Hawaii's Big Island. USGS said the eruption began around 4:15 p.m. local time.
In a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, President Trump highlighted the sacrifices of soldiers and their families but also his own achievements.
The communities of Ridgewood and Glendale came together to honor fallen service members during the 87th annual Memorial Day Parade
