U.S. border agents have been instructed to summarily deport migrants crossing into the country illegally without allowing them to request legal protection.

The US-Mexico border is effectively closed off to migrants seeking asylum in the United States within hours of President Donald Trump taking office, an extraordinary departure from previous protocols that has left many concerned migrants in limbo.

The migrants at El Buen Samaritano shelter had waited months to enter the United States through the CBP One app. Now they are stuck in Mexico.

Several migrants said they had recently arrived in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico after weeks of travel, only to find their CBP One appointments were cancelled.

The restrictions leave migrants who claim they fear for their lives almost no path toward safety in the United States.
