Residents and work crews in the South and Midwest are beginning to clean up and survey the destruction from a three-day outbreak of severe weather. One tornado killed two people in Plantersville, Alabama.

Six Alabama schools are closed down due to tornado damage according to a report by the Alabama Daily News, including Winterboro High School after suffering significant damage from the massive storm system that ravaged the state.

Thousands of power outages were reported Saturday as a deadly severe weather outbreak moved across the Midwest and South.

According to the SPC: “The HIGH risk area almost always means a major severe weather outbreak is expected, with great coverage of severe weather and enhanced likelihood of extreme severe (i.e., violent tornadoes or extreme convective wind events over a large area).”

A video recorded in Calera, Alabama, shows significant damage left behind after powerful storms swept through the region over the weekend. The powerful storm system responsible for the damage has left more than 30 people dead from tornadoes and a dust storm.
