The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for trans minors in a blockbuster ruling that will bolster efforts by conservative state lawmakers to pass and preserve other divisive laws targeting transgender Americans.

The court handed the Trump administration and Republican-led states a significant victory by effectively protecting them from at least some of the legal challenges against efforts to repeal safeguards for transgender people.

The Supreme Court ruled that Tennessee's law restricting gender-affirming care for transgender youth does not violate the 14th Amendment.
