Austrian extreme sportsman Felix Baumgartner, who died last week in a paragliding accident, was alive when his motorized paraglider descended but was killed upon impact, the Italian public prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

The famous adventurer died while paragliding on Italy’s Adriatic coast. His legacy includes a number of world records—including his iconic jump to Earth from the edge of space.
