He was also the uncle of actor Jason Sudeikis, who mourned Wendt in a heartfelt statement 10 days after his uncle's death.

Brett Goldstein also spoke about learning of the actor's death alongside Wendt's nephew, Jason Sudeikis. Wendt died on May 20 at the age of 76.
