The Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America for Google Maps users in the United States, keeping with the terms of President Trump's controversial executive order to rename the body of water.

Google Maps said it would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America once it is officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System.

In Google Maps in the United States, the sea is designated the Sea of Japan (East Sea). A similar naming procedure is set to be used for the Gulf of Mexico in regions outside the United States.

Google Maps, the world's premier mapping app, now recognizes the Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of American. So far Apple hasn't followed suit.

Google Maps has replaced the Gulf of Mexico with the Gulf of America. The White House posted about the change on Google Maps on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.
