Burroughs, 64, a Boston native, was appointed to the federal bench in 2014 by President Barack Obama. Since then, she's overseen high profile cases, including Trump's 2017 Muslim travel ban and the Harvard admissions lawsuit.

The judge did not issue a ruling Monday in the closely watched fight over more than $2 billion in canceled federal research funding. But she said the government’s arguments raised “mind-boggling” questions.
