The smoke from Canadian wildfires produced some of the worst fine particle pollution on record in Minnesota over the weekend. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency released the top hourly fine particle readings from the air quality alert that ran from Friday to Sunday,
Unhealthy air has invaded Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota early this week as a new round of wildfire smoke from Canada has wafted into the region, choking out areas as far south as Chicago and Detroit.
Minneapolis faces smoke, heat, and potential thunderstorms, with air quality affected by Canadian wildfires and varying temperatures throughout the week.
"Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices," the alert advised. "Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle idling as much as possible. Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors."
