Authorities in Charlottesville and Albemarle County lifted shelter-in-place alerts for the University of Virginia and Lewis Mountain neighborhood following a search for Nayeem Hill, a 19-year-old Scottsville resident who fled from police following an attempted traffic stop on Feb. 25.

A shelter-in-place was lifted at the University of Virginia and classes were canceled Tuesday after police were searching for a man accused of fleeing a traffic stop.

The University of Virginia Police Department posted an alert on their Facebook asking all students faculty, and staff to shelter in place.

VIRGINIA - UVA is under a shelter in place as police search for a potential armed suspect in the area. According to police, a suspect by the name of Nyheem Hill was last seen in the area of Alderman Road. It is being reported that Hill fled following an off-grounds traffic stop near Ivy Road and has a known criminal history and gang affiliation.

The University issued an emergency alert to the community Tuesday around 9 a.m., instructing all students, faculty and staff to shelter in place with a suspect at-large. As of 10:20 a.m., all University classes have been canceled until further notice according to the emergency alert system.

UVA was placed under a shelter in place earlier Tuesday afternoon, due to a potential armed suspect in the area.
