The old I-90 floating bridge sank in Lake Washington 35 years ago

35 years ago today: The Lacey V. Murrow Bridge (the 1940-built Lake Washington Floating Bridge), a critically important I-90 span, dramatically broke apart and sank into Lake Washington on November 25, 1990, following a weekend of high winds and rain. The bridge's collapse was attributed to workers leaving hatchways open into the concrete pontoon air pockets during a $35.6 million renovation.
