The second largest living shark species, the basking shark, feeding in the Santa Barbara Channel. 🎥: Adam Ernster Photography They are one of three filter-feeding sharks, along with the whale shark and megamouth shark, meaning they sift out small plankton (such as krill) from the water instead of relying on teeth! | Ocean Conservation Research - OCR

Here's a really nice example demonstrating the swallowing phase of a basking shark feeding. At the start you can see what looks like chewing but this is the shark gulping back the plankton that had collected on its gill rakers.
